If you are keen to move your child into a forward facing seat as soon as you safely can at 15 months , an impact shield provides an extra level of safety and reassurance.
It also has the added bonus of being tougher to press, so children are unable to unbuckle it themselves. Our tall cm three-year old was a little bit too big for the impact shield, but we will definitely be using it with our one-year old in a few months. To use the seat without the impact shield, you simply remove both buckles of the shield and lift it off.
You can then route the vehicle seat belt around your child and feed the lap belt through the green lap belt guides and the shoulder belt through the green shoulder belt guide. As well as sitting, Pallas G I-size can be put in a reclined-lying position by pressing a button on the underside of the front booster and sliding the seat gently forward.
However, it was the patented reclining headrest which really impressed us. This seat also has an integrated air cooling system which stops kids from getting sweaty on even very hot days.
Our little tester was very happy and comfortable in the seat and his head was really well supported whether awake or snoozing. We have struggled with some car seats in the past as our child suffers from motion sickness and he can find some of the larger seats a bit bumpy, but the Cybex Pallas G I-Size got the thumbs up.
Speaking of travel sickness, one of the first things I check when purchasing a car seat is if the cover is machine washable and relatively easy to remove the joys of parenting eh?
The Cybex Pallas G I-Size is a fantastic car seat that offers lots of comfort and safety extras for your child. First of all you will need to unhook the top tether belt from the side of the seat and then pop the car seat into the vehicle.
Next release the two ISOFIX arms as far as they will extend, this can be done one at a time by pressing the buttons at each side. You can then push them onto the ISOFIX points in your car and you'll hear a click as they connect, with the indicator turning from red to green. Push the car seat as close to the vehicle back rest as possible. It is recommended that if the seat headrest interferes with the installation, to move it into the highest position or completely remove it.
The next move is to connect your top tether belt. Pass it over the seat, not the headrest, and hook onto the top tether point in your car. This is often found on the back of the seat, accessed from the boot, but it can also be on the floor or ceiling - check your vehicle handbook if you're not sure. There is a button near the hook of the top tether which you can press to extend the belt if it's not quite long enough to reach. Once connected, pull the belt to tighten until you see the indicator turn to green.
P system! If you find that the side impact gets in the way of closing your vehicle door or with having a passenger in the centre seat, you can reach up into the material and press the button to release and remove them.
We did have to do this with the vehicle that we tested in as otherwise the car door pushed the car seat. On the times where we travelled with 3 car seats on the back seat, the other side had to be removed too.
The thing that sets the Cybex Pallas G i-Size apart is the fact that it is a 2 in 1 seat and offers over a decade of useability, it uses an impact shield to secure your child from cm and a maximum of 21kg. It is then used as a high back booster with the vehicle seat belt from cm, and a maximum 50kg.
As it is an i-Size seat, the Pallas G i-Size can't be used until a child is 76cm and a minimum of 15 months old, as it is a forward facing seat. We love that Cybex have also given the impact shield a higher weight limit of 21kg, rather than the 18kg of a standard harness.
Our tester is only 3 years old but just hit 19kg so great to have an option that will last longer before using the car seat belt and a high back booster.
