Why is dimensioning important

Explanation: The dimension figures are written in such a way that they can be read from bottom only. The chain dimensioning is used as the dimensions are arranged in a straight line. In parallel dimension, the dimension lines are arranged parallel to each other. Radial dimension lines should always be placed in the circular view of the arc, and should be drawn at an angle, never horizontal or vertical. Dimensioning to hidden lines should be avoided wherever possible.

Dimensions should not be placed on a view unless clarity is promoted and long extension lines are avoided. Longer dimensions should be placed outside all intermediate dimensions so that dimension lines will not cross extension lines.

Size dimensions describe the size of each geometric feature. Location dimensions show the location of each geometric feature within an object or view. Location dimensions tell the viewer where edges occur inside an object view. The main difference between Size and Dimension is that the Size is a magnitude or dimension of a thing; concept abstracted from the process of measuring by comparing a longer to a shorter and Dimension is a minimum number of independent coordinates needed to specify any point within a mathematical space.

By dimensions, the shape and size of an object are explained. If the dimension is written in two directions, then such method is called Aligned Method. Careless and untidy dimensioning can spoil an otherwise sound drawing and it should be stated that many marks are lost in examinations due to poor quality work.

When components are drawn in orthographic projection, a choice often exists where to place the dimensions and the following general rules will give assistance. Continue reading here: Chain dimensioning and auxiliary dimensioning.

Reference Dimension 1. Radius d d. Point Locations You can draw angular surfaces by knowing a point of reference and the angle of the surface, or you can give two points of reference. Polar measures the angular difference between objects usually with a reference point. Equally spaced gives a center locations of the entities, the number required, and then indicates the objects are all equally spaced meaning same angle occurs between them.

Please complete worksheets. What are line conventions? Line conventions convey information about the shape and size of an object.

Dimensioning Chapter 9. Dimension Guidelines. Dimensions should NOT be duplicated, or the same information given in two different ways. Similar presentations. The purpose of dimensioning is to provide a clear and complete description of an object. A complete set of dimensions will permit only one interpretation needed to construct the part.

Dimensioning should follow these guidelines. Accuracy: correct values must be given. Clearness: dimensions must be placed in appropriate positions.
